The firm has participated in some historical M&A deals, such as the mergers between BOvESPA and BM&F and Brahma and Antarctica. Throughout 2014, Mattos Filho successfully assisted clients with the closing of 75 M&A transactions. The highlights of the year were the M&A deal between educational groups Anhanguera and Kroton which created one of the world’s largest higher education conglomerates and the merger between Cosan and ALL.
For its performance in Anhanguera/Kroton merger, Mattos Filho won the Domestic M&A Deal of the Year and Regulatory Deal of the Year awards granted, respectively, by Latin Finance and Latin Lawyer magazines.
Furthermore, the M&A practice also participated in a number of transactions involving buyouts and sale of companies by domestic and foreign private equity funds, such as the sale of Intermédica Group to Bain Capital.
The Corporate practice has also been working closely with the Compliance and Ethics and the Restructuring and Insolvency practices. Regarded as a market leader, Mattos Filho’s Corporate practice welcomed a new partner in 2014, Claudio Oksenberg, a specialist in corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance for public companies, financing transactions and securities issues. Claudio is based in our Rio de Janeiro office.
Although Brazil’s economy faces growing challenges ahead, the Corporate practice at Mattos Filho expects continuous and sustainable growth in 2015.
