This practice represents different industries in Brazil. Mattos Filho’s Environmental experts advise clients on relevant environmental legislation and provide support in corporate transactions. The team also liaises with other practices areas of the firm, such as Non-profit and Exempt Organizations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Real Estate and Forestry Investments. All environmental litigation matters are undertaken jointly with the corresponding practice area. Our ongoing cases include those related to forest issues, solid waste, environmental licensing and contaminated areas.

Due to the diversity of issues, the Environmental practice is divided into four main sub-practices. One sub-practice relates to infrastructure and works on licensing and socio-environmental issues relating to construction projects. Another sub-practice relates to biodiversity and agribusiness and works on the preservation of environmental assets. There is another sub-practice that deals with managing environmental liabilities in contaminated areas and, finally, a sub- practice that handles reverse logistics for solid waste and helps companies to adapt their procedures in view of the new National Policy on Solid Waste.
