Non-profit and Exempt Organizations and Social Responsibility

This practice provides a very unique service at Mattos Filho. Essentially, it offers legal advice on the development of corporate social investment projects, individually or in partnership with public and private organizations, domestically and internationally. Furthermore, it counsels clients on how to improve their social responsibility and sustainability departments while minimizing risks and identifying opportunities especially with regard to human rights.

The Social Responsibility practice provides a diverse portfolio of services for our clients, including establishing private associations and foundations, auditing and consulting for private social investment, governance structuring, selection of applicable tax regimes, defense of organizations in litigation, guidance on investments in cultural projects and access to tax incentives. It also serves non-profit organizations across different sectors, such as education, health, culture, environment and microcredit.

One of the highlights of the Social Responsibility practice in 2014 was advising on the development and implementation of business and family social investment opportunities. This practice also counseled corporations on human rights related issues within their organizations. Mattos Filho’s reputation in this field is widely acknowledged particularly for its participation in the Human Rights Committee of the UN Global Compact, a body dedicated to the dissemination of respect for human rights in organizations around the globe.
